What We Do

The Ortner Center is dedicated to increasing women’s well-being by identifying societal changes that might affect violence against women and girls, using the latest technological advances in qualitative and quantitative research, and developing the next generation of national and global leaders.

What We Believe

Girls and women around the globe live under the threat of violence. All can live more fully when they are not afraid or in danger.

 Who We Are

The Ortner Center is a cross-School center at the University of Pennsylvania that currently involves faculty and students from the Annenberg School for Communication, the Perelman School of Medicine, the School of Arts & Sciences, the School of Dental Medicine, the School of Nursing, the School of Social Policy & Practice, and the Wharton School. We teach about and research violence, particularly violence against women & girls and violence in the home.
