School of Social Policy & Practice

In 2019, Blanca Castro completed her MSW and MSSP degrees at the School of Social Policy and Practice. Before coming to Penn, Blanca worked as a Community Educator at a local domestic violence center to promote domestic violence awareness and led several awareness campaigns including Teen Dating Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month. She participated in Vagina Monologues, a story-telling performance that addresses women's empowerment and individuality, at her alma mater, University of California, Irvine. While a first-year MSW student, Blanca enrolled in Professor Sorenson's course on violence in relationships through the life span. Also while an MSW student, she interned at Women Organized Against Rape. She served on the Sexual Harassment Reform Committee of the Graduate and Professional Student Association (GAPSA) during her graduate studies at Penn. Blanca also was part of the winning team for the Penn Wharton Public Policy Initiative competition in 2018; the team created a policy proposal to prevent opioid misuse.
